BankTexas, an East Texas banking group based in Quitman announced Monday that it has filed with the State a request to build a banking facility on Highway 69 in Lindale.  Called a "bank store," the new concept facility is to be built at 3222 S. Main Street alongside the new Kentucky Fried Chicken/Long John Silver's fast food restaurant presently under construction.

Troy Robinson, president and chief operating officer of BankTexas said construction would start this spring with completion expected by as early as September (2008).  The Lindale store manager will be Charlie Rand, a Lindale resident who joined BankTexas last year after serving as a lender in the Farm Credit System in Tyler.  Rand is a graduate of Texas A&M University.

Robinson said the bank store will hire from five to seven employees, all locally, and bank experience may not be required for all positions.

BankTexas started as a single banking institution in Quitman in the 1890s.  It operates conventional branches in Mineola, Holly Lake Ranch, Longview, Tyler and online at www.banktexas.org.  Robinson said the bank is 90% owned by individuals in northeast Texas, including some investors living in the Lindale area.
