TJC to add Nursing Training to Lindale Campus Originally from the Lindale News & Times and edited by JWC | 30-Jun-2009
One year after TJC opened a satellite campus in Lindale to provide main stream courses, the college is expanding its Lindale offerings. Thanks in part to an agreement between Lindale EDC and Tyler Junior College, TJC has aquired additional space in the Identity Center in Lindale to add a nursing program.
According to Holli Benge, TJC's professor/coordinator of vocational nursing for the Lindale branch said there is more demand for nurses than supply and nursing students quickly find themselves hired into nursing jobs. According to Benge, "We are very excited to be in Lindale." The Lindale nursing program will have room for 20 students per semester and enrollment for the first semester is already full. According to Benge,"Having 20 in our class size is a good number, but we could have had double that."
According to the TJC website, "the program is designed to prepare qualified individuals to give direct nursing care to patients of all age groups and to promote development of the individual as a responsible member of society." After three semesters of class work, nursing school graduates are eligible to take their Lincensed Vocational Nursing exam. Following passage of the state exams, the TJC nursing graduate is prepared to function under the legal framework specified by the Texas Board of Nursing. Upon completion of their TJC curriculum, graduates can apply for the National Council Lisensure Exame for Licensed Vocational Nurses.
